April '08- Kol Hakavod to all the Betarim who attended the blatantly anti Israel event- "Balancing Middle East News,"  held at the Cleveland Heights Library on April 6th '08.
The Betarim stood up for Israel and the Jewish people. They made their voices heard even when people tried to shut them up!
Great job and Tel-Chai!!

CWRU- Betar has been battling anti-Israel rhetoric at Case Western Reserve University.  So far this year, a series of extremly anit-Israel speakers have been invited to campus inclluding Professors Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer, Alice Rothchild , and Alison Weir. All these speakers have been brought to campus by CWRU proffesor Alice Bach.
There have also been a number of anti-Semetic incidents on Campus.

Betarim protest Alison Weir at CWRU on 03/06/08

September '07- The Betar Zionist Movement and the Zionist Organization of America led students and community members in a protest against Professors Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer's appearance at The City Club and later that evening on the campus of Case Western Reserve University.

Walt and Mearsheimer's book The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, praised by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the PLO office in Washington, is intellectually dishonest and anti-Semitic

August '07- Betar kicked off the year with a phone call campaign- calling companies who advertised on CNN's extremely biased and offensive program, "God's Warriors" which aired in August '08. The idea was to put pressure on these companies to contact CNN and express concern over having their advertisement shown on such an offensive program.
The campaign was very successful! Eight major companies, including Intel, Volvo, and Anheuser-Busch contacted CNN. Many of the companies have told CNN that they refuse to have their commercial shown during any re-run of the this program or during any other offensive program. Also, many of these companies have demanded to be reimbursed and to be given free commercial airtime.

May '08- Betar held a counter-rally opposing a demonstration called "Stand for Palestine, Speak out for Palestine".  Both events took place in downtown Cleveland on 5/15 outside the Federal Building. Click hear for all the details and to article in CJN.
In Shir Betar- Betar's anthem, Rosh Betar Zev Jabotinksy wrote, " Silence is Despicable." These words mean a lot to Betar. In Betar, we believe in standing up for Israel and the Jewish people. And when we believe something, we act upon it. So take a quick look at some of this years activism...
  • Two major campaigns throughout the 07-08 school year were to Free Jonathan Pollard and to  Help the Citizens of Sderot. Both had major impacts on the local and broader Jewish community.
  • Betar Cleveland is still currently involved in a campaign combating anti-Semitism at Case Western Reserve University. Scroll down for more details

September '08-The Betar Zionist Youth Movement has launched a phone call/letter writing campaign to congress regarding a bipartisan resolution in the House of Representatives (H. Res. 758) urging the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to denounce the 10 articles in the Fatah Constitution that call for the destruction of Israel and terror against Israel. A similar resolution was introduced in the Senate as well (S. Res. 499).

September '08- For everyone who was active last year in Betar, you surely remember all the anti-Jewish events held at Case Western Reserve University during the 07-08 school year. Betar spent much time and energy responding. To get an overview of last years activities, see below.
Well, things have not changed. Already this year, there have been two serious anti-Israel/anti-Jewish events on campus.  On Friday Sept 12, there was a fundraiser held for Palestine Childeren's Relief Fund. A charity which is a very probable front for Islamic terror groups. On Monday Sept 15, one of the founders of Electronic Intifada spoke. A person filled with hate for Israel and the Jewish people. Betar takes great offense to this spread of hatred on a local college campus.  The Jewish community at large should be outraged and insulted.  In Betar spirit, we will not and cannot remain silent. More details will follow...
